Weddings in 2023: Make sure your big day is protected
A wedding is a special day for a couple, but it can also be an expensive one. Between venues,...
Looking for somewhere to celebrate an anniversary or have a pre-wedding get together? Celebrated Henley-on-Thames restaurant Orwells was named 2019 Restaurant of the Year at the Thames Valley Hospitality Awards in May. Run by Ryan and Liam Simpson-Trotman, known for their appearances on BBC's Great British Menu, the restaurant was previously named the Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year and has been consistently included in The Waitrose Good Food Guide UK Top 50.
Chef owners Ryan & Liam Simpson-Trotman who are well known for their appearances on BBC2's Great British Menu for the last three years, their weekly BBC Radio Berkshire show Eat with Your Ears as well as Saturday Kitchen, are delighted. "An award like this is a huge honour. It's just me and and Liam cooking in the kitchen and we live above the restaurant. It's a tiny business so to be recognised for all the hard work really means a lot," says Ryan.
At Orwells their ethos is to serve nothing but the highest quality produce with a major focus on sustainability. The chefs have their own small holding where, in season, more than 75% of their fruit and vegetables are grown. They are selective with their suppliers, using only those with verified sustainable credentials and are passionate bee keepers, producing plenty of honey for the restaurant.
It's not all tasting menus at Orwells - though there is a nine course "Taste the Season" menu - a two and three course lunch menu are on offer at £30 and £35 respectively. Ryan and Liam have both recently competed on Great British Menus for their own home regions - Ryan has taken part for the last three years, whilst Liam is in his second.
