Ashmolean Museum celebrates Mother's Day with artistry and craftsmanship

Ashmolean Museum celebrates Mother's Day with The Way of Tea

This March, Britain's first public museum, Oxford's Ashmolean Museum, celebrates Mother's Day with a beautiful curated gifting edit which champions artistry, craftsmanship and the natural world. From bespoke tea to Anglo-Saxon-inspired jewellery and ceramic starter kits, the Ashmolean Shop has a wide range of gifts available for all ages, budgets and tastes.

The top ten picks from the museum include ceramics by local artist Emma Baldwin. This range of one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces has been inspired by the vivid colours of the artwork Study of a Kingfisher, a watercolour by John Ruskin. All pieces in this range are handmade, meaning each piece is individual and may vary slightly in colour and shape.

There's also The Way of Tea - a tea-tasting journey created in collaboration between Team Tea and the Ashmolean Museum, the University of Oxford's Museum of Art and Archaeology. Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean world-famous collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art, telling human stories across cultures and across time.

The tea set includes six award-winning teas and an unbleached cotton tea bag. Each tea is accompanied by a souvenir card leading the drinker from tea's origins in China and charting its spread across the world via Buddhism, Empire, trade, and espionage.

The journey is guided by objects from the Ashmolean's extensive collection, revealing not just fascinating stories of individual endeavour but also how culture has been influenced by this seemingly humble drink.

Check out The Ashmolean Pantry hamper, £25, which is jam-packed with sweet and savoury treats. This scrumptious selection is the ideal gift for the jam connoisseur! This year sees the introduction of an exclusive range of Ashmolean gift boxes. This collection features a range of jams, chutneys and preserves made specially for the Ashmolean Museum. Each jar features artwork from the Ashmolean collection.

The perfect accompaniment to these is Oxford's own Oxford Blue Oatmeal Biscuits. Handmade in a small bakery in Oxfordshire, the oatmeal biscuits contain 30% Oxford Blue Cheese. The selection of treats is presented in a reusable presentation box and hand-tied with a decorative yellow ribbon – perfect for Easter gifting.
