Oxford is crowned the UK’s number one staycation hotspot

A new study has revealed the UK's top staycation spots for a weekend getaway. The research, conducted by travel insurance experts Forbes Advisor, scored UK locations based on factors such as the cost of eating out, the average price of a local Airbnb, and transport costs in and around each town or city. It also analysed the number of attractions per 10,000 people to discover where offers the best experience for a staycation this autumn. The research revealed that the historical city of Oxford offers the best experience, with a Staycation Score of 93.6 out of 100. Visitors can enjoy a three-course meal for two that costs just £50 on average, Airbnb stays priced at an average of £116 per night, and a wide and varied selection of attractions – with local taxi fares priced at just £1.75 per mile.

Diva Opera returns to Henley-on-Thames this September in aid of charity

Britain's foremost chamber opera group is returning to Henley-on-Thames this September for two performances in aid of children's charities. Over the past 26 years, Diva Opera has produced more than 50 different operas and over 2000 performances in festivals, theatres and for charities throughout Great Britain, Europe, Japan, and South Africa. The group will be presenting Puccini's Tosca on the 17th of September and Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte on the 24th of September in the idyllic surroundings of The Great Barn at Manor Farm, Fingest, near Henley-on-Thames. Diva Opera's casts include singers who work at major opera houses, and the operas are performed in stunning period costumes. There are subtitles for both operas and opera-goers will be able to enjoy a picnic in a specially erected marquee during the extended interval.

Escape to Oxford campaign includes affordable things to do

Experience Oxfordshire, the destination management organisation for Oxfordshire, is encouraging visitors to Escape to Oxford with the launch of a new campaign funded by VisitEngland. The local marketing initiative forms part of the National Tourist Board's 'Escape the Everyday' marketing campaign supporting England's tourism industry recovery. Visitors will be encouraged to book experiences including walking tours, River Thames cruises, open-top bus rides, theatre shows at New Theatre Oxford and hotel stays in a variety of properties including St Margaret's Hotel. A highlight is a luxury shopping experience in nearby Bicester Village.

Windsor and Truro named in top three most romantic staycation destinations

A new study by the research team at WeThrift has uncovered the most romantic staycation destinations in the UK and Windsor in Berkshire and Truro located in Cornwall land in the top three. Windsor is officially the UK's most romantic staycation destination with an overall score of 64.7 out of 80. The town is home to Windsor Castle, an official residence of the British royal family, as well as the royal Windsor racecourse and a Legoland resort, plus as many as 135 things to see and do, making it the perfect honeymoon getaway. According to the research, couples will be heading to the South West coast this Valentine's Day, as Truro comes in at a close second place as the most romantic staycation spot in the UK with an overall score of 58.9. The Cornish city rated consistently across all categories with special mentions going to the 34 romantic restaurants, 22 jewellery shops and 92 things to do during a trip to the cathedral city.
