In conjunction with our get-the-look lingerie special in the October/November issue of Your Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding, Liz Brighton, owner of Old Amershams's Odette Lingerie, offers priceless advice on how picking the right bridal underwear is just as important as picking the right dress:

From designing and making wedding dresses to providing the full wedding trousseau for some very special customers, I have always appreciated how important the lingerie is in not only providing a perfect foundation for the big star, the dress, but also in making the bride feel at her most beautiful both during and after the all-important ceremony. Wearing the right bridal lingerie will give you the structure and support to take on your most special day with confidence. From bras to bustiers, shapewear to stockings, we take a look at this season's bridal lingerie options.

When to purchase:
It's crucial you have purchased your dress before you shop for your bridal lingerie. You will then have a clear idea if you are looking for a bra and bottoms, corset or a solution-based option. When you have decided on your dress, it's a good idea to take different underwear options with you to a fitting so you know what works with your dress before making a bridal lingerie purchase.

Fitting:
As with the sizing of dresses, sizes of bridal underwear will vary depending on where you make your purchase. Brides can often see a fluctuation in their sizing in the lead up to the wedding, so it's important to be fitted to ensure you make the correct purchase.

White or Colour?
The expectation is that brides are to wear pure white or ivory when it comes to selecting bridal lingerie. But as well as the more traditional colours, this season sees the options spreading into beautiful pastels as well as nude shades.

Shapewear:
A need for shapewear will depend on your style of dress, and how comfortable you will feel wearing it. Making a choice for a slinky, fitted dress will mean it's more likely you will need shapewear. Often brides feel more empowered knowing they have the structured support of shapewear under their dress. If you do go for this option, you can always have a romantic and sexy option to change into later.
