Worried about your beauty regime? We talk to Bucks experts at The Beauty & Blow Dry Studio and explode a few unhelpful myths about how to look your best.
HAIR MYTHS:
Lidia Zullo, Artistic Director at The Beauty & Blow Dry Studio
“Cutting my hair more often will make it longer.”
Whilst having your hair cut regularly will certainly strengthen the ends, minimise split ends and keep it healthy, it won't make your hair longer if you are leaving the same length of time between each hair cut. For example, a hair cut every six weeks will ensure your desired style is kept in shape and any length grown shortened to how it was six weeks ago. However if you really want to grow your hair, I recommend leaving 10 - 12 weeks between hair cut appointments. Be sure not to leave it longer than 12 weeks though as this could defeat the object of growing it by letting the split ends get out of control.
“The right products will make hair grow thicker.”
There are products that can swell the cuticle of the hair making it feel and appear thicker but it won't make your hair suddenly start growing thicker from the root. Your diet is indeed important to the health of your hair so if you are wanting to improve the look of any thinning hair look to what you are eating. Try introducing more protein and iron into your diet, paying attention to zinc and vitamin D; this will contribute to hair growth or thickness. Also, if you aren't keen on red meat, you can always talk to your doctor about a supplement.
BEAUTY MYTHS:
Franchesca Frascona - Senior Beauty Therapist at The Beauty & Blow Dry Studio.
"The right beauty products and treatments will erase my pores."
Despite the fact that there are hundreds of skincare and make-up products that claim to unclog and erase your pores, it's virtually impossible to 'erase' your pores as they are a structural part of your skin.
"Toothpaste works as a spot treatment." T
Toothpaste is way too harsh to use on your skin and can have damaging effects. It disrupts the pH of your skin and strips away your natural oils.
"Eyelashes and eyebrows don't need to be conditioned."
Just as much as the hair on our head, your brows and lashes should be conditioned to keep them in tip top condition, especially as we expose our lashes and brows to all sorts of products on a daily basis. Keeping lashes and brows conditioned means keeping them healthy, helping to encourage growth, making them appear thicker and fuller. A personal fave is Beauty Edit Mayfair - Brow Setter, enriched with caster oil, vitamin E and B5 - a make-up must have for all your brow and lash needs.
