Spring is here! Here at Your Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding, we have some timely advice on spring and early summer big-day blooms, courtesy of Sandra Green of Lark Rise Flowers...
For wedding flowers this year, the natural, organic look will continue. Bouquets are multi-textured and flowing, and tablescapes are still big themes in wedding décor. For spring go for tulips, ranunculus, hellebores, and viburnum opulus, or for big impact – glorious arching branches of English blossom at floor level.
Mix plants in with table displays. For those on a limited budget, maximum impact can be achieved by interspersing or grouping organic pots of flowering bulbs and plants. Not all spring flowers are happiest when cut, and there is nothing more life affirming than seeing growing pots of primroses, bellis and muscari peeking out from a backdrop of foliage.
White and green have always been a popular choice for wedding flowers, giving a pure and calming effect. Texture should play a big part in your chosen designs. For early summer choose astilbe, roses, eustoma, campanula, alchemilla mollis and “Green trick” dianthus, mixed with British-grown foliage such as hedera, euonymus, and viburnum.
These materials also work well for hanging installations, especially if you have chosen a barn or marquee for your celebrations, as these venues are suitable for suspending the cascading foliage.
