With all the uncertainties and disruption caused by Coronavirus, it's business as 'abnormal' in the wedding industry. But for Oxfordshire's Dolce Lusso Cakes, the accolades – and the orders – keep coming in.
"These are newly-testing times," says Kate Lieberman, owner and Creative Director of Dolce Lusso Cakes: "COVID-19 is presenting changes and challenges that our world hasn't known for generations. But we have to keep calm, and stay positive. In fact, I think we're being given a unique chance to reflect on our priorities, and perhaps even reset our way of life.
"Indeed: few things are currently more important than connection, togetherness and love – the most basic foundations of any healthy marriage.
"Sadly, though understandably, many couples are having to postpone or move their planned wedding dates for 2020," explains Kate. "This has a knock-on effect for all of us involved in making their big day memorably special. But the upshot is my clients now have more time to focus on what they want for later in the year, or 2021. And our order books are already filling up. Getting a date locked in, and the details right, is also something to celebrate and look forward to, when we eventually pull through the Coronavirus crisis."
Dolce Lusso Cakes has always offered a personal consultation for every client, and Kate's process is deliberately collaborative: "Each couple is different – and their wedding cake should capture this individuality.
"Social-distancing and the UK's lockdown pose no problems here. We're not limited by location, and are set up to function remotely. For £40, couples can select up to six wedding cake flavours to sample, which we'll ship by next-day delivery. We then organise a video call to discuss their vision, budget and requirements in full."
This focus on customer service and flexibility has clearly served Kate's business well.Within the last 18 months alone, Dolce Lusso Cakes has twice won 'Best Wedding Cake Artisan' in the prestigious LUX Life Magazine 'Global Wedding Awards'. The business is also a 'Finalist' in the upcoming Guides for Brides 'Customer Service Awards'.In spite of the acclaim – and the climate – Kate continues to ensure Dolce Lusso Cakes delivers a bespoke and accessible experience.
"We'll get through this," Kate tell us – we couldn't agree more. "We'll get through it as an industry; as individuals; as a nation; as humanity. And I firmly believe we'll come out the other side different, but somehow stronger.
"Solidarity and resolve have long helped mankind overcome significant hurdles. And Dolce Lusso Cakes remains committed to supporting wedding couples in 2020 and beyond – not just with cakes that taste as good as they look, but also a welcomingly warm and personal touch."
