So you've carefully chosen that special venue and you now want to make the very best of that important decision and wonderful location. You both want to look your very best. The next important question is who is going to capture those special moments and create that unique record of our day? The photographs of your wedding are going to be life long memories that you, your family and friends are going to cherish forever. Great wedding photography is more then just finding a 'wedding photographer'. Your photographer is going to share some very special and intimate moments with you.

Think of the style you would like, whether that is formal with lots of groups shots and set poses, or a relaxed documentary style of photography. The latter tells the story of your day in a natural and unobtrusive way, which is the way I prefer to work. Once you have chosen your style, meet with your photographer. I always insist on this. Great photography is not just about being a good photographer, but about being a fantastic people person too. Personalities are so important. You, your family and friends need to feel totally relaxed with your photographer for him or her to get the best photos of you all.

Next ask to see lots of the potential photographer's work. You need to know that the quality goes from start to finish and it's not just a few lucky headline shots. Ask about their experience. Have they worked at your venue before? Find out who has recommended them, whether that is venues or previous clients. Social media is perfect for finding this out. The experience of your photographer is what will give you those stunning centrepieces on your wall at home.

Also, remember that photography is not done to a formula. Your photographer needs to be able to work in an ever changing environment and have an excellent repertoire of shots to draw from. You don't want to spend hours capturing those shots. It isn't a photoshoot but your wedding day and you want to spend as much time as possible with family and friends that have often come from afar. Most of all don't forget to have fun with your photographer!
