April/May 2020

Firstly, I hope all of our readers have been keeping well during this surreal, unprecedented time. It would be hard for me to not mention the dreaded c-word, however, I admire how everyone, no matter how badly they have been effected, has come together to help and support one another. The tide will start turning, and we can all begin to re-plan cancelled weddings, re-book honeymoons and get back to our wonderful world of weddings – supporting local businesses and couples finding their feet again!

This issue, will hopefully give you some light relief, and offer up some inspiration for your weddings at the end of this year and beyond.

As I’m writing this, typically English weather is bestowed on us: wet, grey, windy and rainy – we love the UK!

On my own wedding day the heavens opened, but I had planned an indoor wedding and the ceremony and reception was all in one place so we didn’t even notice the weather. When we went outside for our couple shots, the grey gloomy images are actually some of my favourites – so I say embrace the rain. That’s exactly what one of our real wedding couples did this issue, Shelley and Luke, there wedding can be seen over on page 38 and not only do that have lovely shots with umbrellas, but I also loved this quote from the bride: “The rain always brightens my day now since our wedding day, where as before I hated it. But a little rain never hurt anyone and if anything this was the extra special part of our day,” that’s certainly a beautiful outlook on life!

Looking at the rest of this issue for you, we showcase some stunning barn properties perfect for those wanting rustic nuptials, check our page 17 and we also look at the West Berkshire and Newbury area over on page 23.

If you’re stuck for bouquet inspiration, meet with some of your local florists over on page 53 and we have some jewellery and accessory looks you will be in awe of on page 57.

We love to hear from local brides and suppliers, so if you would like to get in touch to grace the pages of our lovely magazine then drop me an email!

Pull up a chair, make a brew and enjoy reading this issue.

De Vere Wokefield Estate

A sweeping drive, a stunning lake, picturesque gardens and an elegant Victorian mansion house set the tone at this leading wedding venue. The estate is set within 250 acres of Berkshire’s finest countryside and lends itself perfectly for beautiful photographs. The grand columns of the mansion make for a stately entrance, whether that’s by car or even helicopter.

The house is elegant, grand and has many traditional features still in place such as chandeliers and period fireplaces. Over in Wokefield Place, also on the estate, you’ll find the Wokefield Suite; a large, modern room begging to be decorated in your chosen themes and colours. Natural light is in abundance in both buildings as are the spectacular views.

Cermony options include: the Wedding Gazebo accommodates six (under the gazebo) but this is on the lawns so unlimited number for guests to look on and watch.

The grandest space, the Terrace Suite, hosts 300 and benefits from natural daylight and its own terrace area overlooking the back lawns and lake.

Once a chapel, the Lincoln Suite (120) is bathed in natural daylight with windows down each side of the room. With direct access onto the lawns of the mansion, this room is ideal for ceremonies and receptions alike.

For more intimate weddings, these smaller spaces are popular: Palmer (60) features stunning lake views and a beautiful chandelier, much like Palmer, the Old Lounge (60) is the perfect choice for smaller gatherings. The room has plenty of natural daylight, views of the back lawns and a traditional fireplace. The Mortimer Suite (60) decorated in its neutral tones has wonderful views across the grounds. With its wood-panelling and floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s a wonderful room for an intimate family wedding.

A complete blank canvas Wokefield Suite can seat up to 280 for a ceremony and 350 for a wedding breakfast. This room can really be transformed into whatever your vision may be with its versatile colour palette and accessibility. Located in Wokefield Place, this is ideal for those couples who prefer a more modern approach to their wedding.

Post vows, the following suites host a dancefloor and DJ and guests respectively, Terrace Suite 260, Lincoln Suite 90, Palmer Suite 60, Old Lounge Suite 60, Wokefield Suite 300. When saying I do to this venue couples benefit from a first anniversary stay!
