Kathryn and Nathan invited their guests to wonderland for their big day

Kathryn Crawford and Nathan Owers first met when they were fourteen, and their story began. In 2011, after 13 years of close friendship, they finally got together and became a couple but, much like Monica and Chandler in Friends, they didn’t tell anyone for months.

Two and a half years later, Nathan asked Kathryn’s mother for her daughter’s hand in marriage. On Christmas morning, after enjoying smoked salmon and champagne and opening all their presents, Nathan said he had one more gift to give. Inside the box was a smaller box, and then another and another, until finally Kathryn opened the last to find a beautiful diamond ring. As Nathan had always maintained he wasn’t really into marriage, it was a real surprise, and Kathryn burst into tears of happiness before saying ‘yes’.

A little over a year later, on 28th March, 2015, they tied the knot. On the day, they transformed Cantley House into a whimsical woodland wonderland, whilst also quirkily incorporating the bride’s love of rubber ducks.

On page 43 of the current issue, Kathryn and Nathan shares more about their big day.

Our experts reveal their choice of popular big-day themes for 2016 and beyond

Boho

Ela Aksoy, of Bochic Weddings and Events says, Bohemian style is still very popular at the moment. Receptions could include table centrepieces of overflowing wild flowers, with a selection of berries, flowers or feathers. For a more rustic vibe, use little slices of wood as escort cards and carve in the name of your guests. For bohemian-luxe style, add a metallic touch with geometric shapes. Use a mixture of materials like macramé, wood, jars, candles, wild flowers, bottles, feathers, lace and metal – don’t be scared to incorporate different textures, patterns and mismatched crockery, as this brings the boho look to life.

”Eco-friendly weddings go hand in hand with the bohemian style. Green weddings don’t have to be less chic, and using recycled items for your table centrepieces can be both stylish and sustainable.”

Perfect curves

Q I’m having a late spring/early summer wedding – what are the hot trends to watch for?

A Bridal boutique owner Ellie Sanderson says:
Bridalwear is reaching new levels of fashion gorgeousness. The big design houses are pushing the boundaries using splashes of colour and delicate floral patterns. There are also flashes of midriff with gorgeous beaded crop tops that sit on the waist with ball gown style silk skirts with statement pockets. These can easily be worn with a sash for the ceremony, which is then whipped off to reveal a sexy two-piece at the party.

Lace continues to be timeless and is ever popular with new and breathtaking delicate fabrics in fluid shapes. This season, the focus is on the back, with sheer illusion detailing and a soft fit and flare shape. Expect amazing modern and gently tailored dresses, made in fabrics like silk zibeline, soft in structure but looking crisp and bang on-trend. 2016 is all about delicate floral patterns, soft colour, two pieces and layering. Dare to be bold and make a statement on your big day.
